Gregor Traber (born December 2, 1992 in Tettnang ) is a German athlete who specializes in the 110-meter hurdles .
Athletic career
In 2008 Traber became German B youth runner-up in the hurdles. At the World Athletics Championships in 2009 in Bressanone he finished fifth in the hurdles and seventh in the triple jump . The following year he won the German Youth Championships in hurdles, but could not qualify for the final at the Junior World Championships in Moncton . In 2011 he won the German youth championship title indoors and outdoors. With 13.31 s he set a German U20 record. This year he also appeared for the first time in the adult sector when he surprisingly won the 60-meter hurdles at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig .
In 2012 Traber successfully defended his indoor championship title. So he qualified for the indoor world championships in Istanbul , but did not get beyond the preliminary runs there. At the beginning of June he increased his best performance over the 110 meter hurdles by 8 hundredths of a second to 13.47 seconds in Geneva. In doing so, he met the qualification standards for the European Championships in Helsinki and the Olympic Games in London . In 2013 Traber won the bronze medal at the U-23 European Championships in Tampere, Finland.
In 2014 he reached the 5th place (7.56 s) at the World Indoor Championships in Sopot and in the open air he increased his best performance to 13.43 s. On November 24th, 2014 he moved from LAV Tübingen to VfB Stuttgart .
In 2015 Traber reached the semifinals at the World Championships in Beijing . He also won the German outdoor championships in Nuremberg for the first time with a new best time in the final (13.32 s).
In the 2016 Olympic year, Traber met the norm for the 2016 Olympic Games of 13.47s at the start of the season . At the German Championships in Kassel, he was runner-up. At the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam in 2016 , he got stuck on the 6th hurdle and missed the finals. On July 29th in Mannheim he improved his personal best to 13.21 seconds - the fifth fastest time of a German hurdler. At the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, he moved into the semi-finals as third in his preliminary run. Traber missed the final by 2 hundredths of a second and thus reached 9th place.
In 2017 he was again German runner- up, behind Matthias Bühler . The DLV nominated him for the World Championships in London , but Traber had to cancel the season due to an injury.
Gregor Traber is 1.90 m tall and weighs 80 kg.
Club affiliations
Gregor Traber announced his return to LAV Stadtwerke Tübingen for the 2016/17 season, for which he had already started between 2010 and 2014. He was trained by Marlon Odom at the Olympic base in Stuttgart . At the end of 2017 he joined the group of national coach Jan May in Leipzig, but remained loyal to his club.
