Matthias Bühler (born September 2, 1986 in Lahr / Black Forest ) is a German hurdle sprinter from Haslach in the Kinzigtal .

Athletic career

He began his career as a student at TV Haslach under Max, Jürgen and Frank Schmider. Bühler completed an apprenticeship as an IT system administrator in Haslach. Until 2011 he was with the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr . In 2005, after moving to LG Offenburg, he specialized in the 110 meter hurdles. Matthias Bühler's trainer at LG Offenburg was Wilhelm Seigel. Its main strength lies in the finish.

Bühler became German champion in the 110-meter hurdles in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2020 and started for Germany at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin, where he was eliminated in the preliminary stages, and at the 2010 European Championships in Barcelona ( 12th place). At the European Championships in Helsinki in 2012 , he narrowly missed the finals with 10th place. In advance, he was able to exceed the norm for the Olympic Games in Mannheim . In London he retired in advance.

In 2013 he improved his personal best in the hall over 60 meter hurdles and took part in the European Indoor Championships in Gothenburg.

In 2016, Bühler won the German championship title for the sixth time with 13.44 s and secured participation in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro by reaching the standard .

Bühler was part of the B-team of the German Athletics Association (DLV) .

By moving to LG Eintracht Frankfurt , where he started for Team International on January 1, 2017 , Bühler was able to avert his premature retirement. At the end of 2018, he ended his competitive sports career and started a job as an IT specialist. In August 2019 he got back into training fully and planned his comeback as a hurdle sprinter. In 2020 he took part in the first competition. In the third competition after his comeback, he ran the 110 meter hurdles in Regensburg, Germany's best time of 13.60 seconds. In Braunschweig on August 8, 2020, he became German champion over 110 meter hurdles for the eighth time in 13.62 seconds.
