Katharina Grompe (born September 1, 1993 in Dortmund ) is a German athlete who specializes in sprints .

Athletic career

In her childhood she practiced judo ; Her trainer advised her parents to switch because of her urge to move, and so she started with TVE Barop with athletics before moving to LG Olympia Dortmund .

After finishing second at the German Youth Championships over 200 meters in 2009 , the following year she won her first national title in the B-Youth Championships ( U18 ) in Ulm in 24.13 seconds and missed over 100 meters with 12.01 s the final run just barely. In 2011 she defended her championship title over 200 meters and won gold with the 4 x 100 meter relay at the U20 European Championships in Tallinn . The season set a new European record with 43.42 seconds. She finished 8th over 200 meters with 24.01 s.

The year 2012 began with back problems, but she ran the 100 meters in personal best with 11.65 s and won silver at the U20 World Championships in Barcelona in 2012 with the German relay; over 100 meters she retired with 12.06 s in qualification. In 2013 she won the relay gold at the U23 European Championships in Tampere and was then nominated for the 2013 World Championships in Moscow . In the last competition before leaving, however, she tore a muscle fiber and had to refrain from participating. In October 2013 she extended her contract with LGO until 2016.

In 2014 she suffered another torn muscle fiber at the beginning of the indoor season, but was able to compete again at the Borsig Meeting in Gladbeck at the beginning of June and set a new personal best of 11.43 s. However, due to Achilles tendon problems , she had to end the season in July.

In 2015 she achieved a personal best at the German Indoor Championships in Karlsruhe with 7.34 seconds over 60 meters. Grompe then had to undergo a posterior tibial surgery and sit out for a year. In the years that followed, Grompe was repeatedly thrown back due to various injuries, so that she initially did not contest any competitions even after she switched to LC Paderborn in the 2018 season . After a four-year break, she finally competed again at the beginning of February 2019, at the North Rhine-Westphalian indoor championships she ran over 60 meters for 7.40 s and took second place in the final in 7.42 s. Two weeks later, she improved her best performance in the run-up to the German Indoor Championships by a hundredth of a second to 7.33 s. In the final, she sprinted to fourth place in 7.35 s with a slight injury suffered during the run.
