Laura de Witte (born September 10, 1992 in Vlaardingen ) is a Dutch sprinter who has specialized in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Lisanne de Witte gained her first international experience in 2009 at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Tampere , where she was eliminated in the first round with 57.43 s. In 2011 she took part in the Dutch 4 x 400 meter relay at the Junior European Championships in Tallinn , where she finished fourth with a new U23 record of 3: 37.44 min. At the U23 European Championships in Tampere in 2013, she reached the final in the individual competition over 400 meters, where she finished eighth in 53.97 s. The following year she took part in the World Indoor Championships in Sopot and would have qualified third in the semifinals for the final race, but the American team protested that one of their athletes was said to have been blocked. The protest was then granted.

In 2016, de Witte qualified over 400 meters for the European Championships in her home town of Amsterdam and reached the semi-finals there, where she was eliminated with 52.37 seconds. In addition, she took seventh place in the season with 3: 29.23 min. With this season she also qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . There she was eliminated in the preliminary round , but set a new Dutch record with 3: 26.98 minutes. The following year she reached the semifinals at the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade and was eliminated there with 54.81 s in the semifinals. In August, at the World Championships in Lodon, the end of the preliminary round , in which she completed the stadium round in 52.48 s. Even with the season she could not qualify for the finals . In 2018 she won the bronze medal at the European Championships in Berlin with a new Dutch record of 50.77 seconds behind Polish Justyna Święty-Ersetic and Maria Belimbasaki from Greece. Then she finished fourth in the Continental Cup in Ostrava in 51.41 s and was disqualified from the European relay. The following year she won the bronze medal at the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow in 52.34 s behind the Swiss Léa Sprunger and Cynthia Bolingo Mbongo from Belgium. At the end of September she reached the semi-finals at the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated with 51.41 s. In addition, she placed seventh in the season with 3: 27.89 minutes in the final . Before that, she won the relay at the World Relays in Yokohama with 3: 29.03 min in the B final.

From 2015 to 2017 and 2019, de Witte was the Dutch champion in the 400-meter run outdoors and in 2016 also indoors. She also won the 200-meter indoor championships in 2019 . Her sister Laura de Witte is also active as a sprinter.
