Martin Grau (born March 26, 1992 in Höchstadt an der Aisch , Bavaria ) is a German athlete who specializes in the obstacle course .

Athletic career

Martin Grau achieved his first international success at the 2011 European Junior Championships in the 3000 meter obstacle course when he won the bronze medal. In 2013 he became German U23 champion. After he had increased his personal best in 2014 to 8: 24.29 minutes and also defeated Steffen Uliczka in the race and undercut the European Championship standard, he was called up for the European team championship and scored eleven points for the German team. At the German Championships in 2014 , he finished second behind Uliczka. At the European Championships in Zurich, he finished 13th.

In 2015, Martin Grau won the title at the Universiade in Gwangju in 8: 31.55 minutes and was German champion for the first time. On March 5, 2016, he took third place at the German Cross Country Championships in the middle distance. At the same time he won the silver medal there in the team of the LSC Höchstadt / Aisch (with Bastian Grau and Niklas Bühner ).

In 2017 he was German runner-up in the 3,000 meter obstacle course in Erfurt and was only just beaten by Tim Stegemann . Over this distance, the General German University Sports Association (ADH) nominated him in mid-July for the Summer Universiade in Taipei , where he came in seventh place.

In 2018 Grau won the German championship over the 3000 meter obstacle.

In 2019, Grau became German runner-up in the 3000 m obstacle course in Berlin. He also started at the World Cup in Doha .

Club affiliations

Grau started for the LSC Höchstadt / Aisch until 2018, where he was initially trained by Markus Mönius. He has been training with national coach Enrico Aßmus in Erfurt since autumn 2017 and is moving to the Erfurt LAC from 2019 .
