The University of Applied Sciences Ansbach (short Ansbach University until 2009: University of Applied Sciences Ansbach ) is a public university of applied sciences in Ansbach / Middle Franconia .

Ansbach University

The Ansbach University was founded in 1996 as the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences . In 2009 it was renamed University of Applied Sciences - Ansbach University of Applied Sciences and in 2013 with amended statutes it was renamed University of Applied Sciences Ansbach . It still has the status of a technical college.

The university is one of the new state universities of the Free State of Bavaria and at the beginning of the 2017/18 winter semester had 2900 students in 20 courses as well as 67 professorships in three faculties (business, technology and media). The proportion of foreign students was around five percent.

In 1998 the university was a founding member of MedienCampus Bayern , the umbrella organization for media education and training in Bavaria, and is a member of the Bavarian High-Tech Offensive .

In December 2008, the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences was recognized as the University of Top Sports 2008 by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). This predicate was previously only given to the Beuth University of Applied Sciences in Berlin.

Branch offices

Herrieden campus

With the Center of Excellence for TPM at the Herrieden location, Ansbach University of Applied Sciences bundles degree programs in the field of Total Productive Management in a realistic environment. In the model production plant teaching factory , real machines and real products are used and teaching content from the field of operational excellence is conveyed. In the attached teaching office , all processes in the administrative area (Office Excellence) are run through in a real office environment. The part-time bachelor's degree in Value Management is located on the Herrieden campus .

Weissenburg campus

In January 2013, the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences and the Deggendorf University of Applied Sciences as well as the large district town of Weißenburg in Bavaria and the Weißenburg-Gunzenhausen district merged and established the technology and study center kunststoffcampus bayern at the Weißenburg study site . The Ansbach University of Applied Sciences takes on the role of the study center. Technology and study centers should be closely interlinked so that Ansbach University can also use the technology center for research projects and training. The part-time bachelor's degree courses in applied plastics technology and strategic management are located on the Weißenburg campus .

Feuchtwangen campus

In collaboration with the city of Feuchtwangen and the Bayerische BauAkademie, the go-ahead was given in late summer 2014 for a further branch of the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences. In the field of sustainable building technology , interdisciplinary elements of supply technology, automation technology, building technology and building technology are to be linked with the basics of civil engineering. The Applied Engineering bachelor's degree is located on the Feuchtwangen campus .

Rothenburg campus

The Bavarian State Government has given the Rothenburg ob der Tauber location the green light since summer 2015 . From 2017, in cooperation with the universities of Aschaffenburg and Weihenstephan-Triesdorf, intercultural management will be taught full-time and part-time at the previous Luitpold School; with innovative methods and active e-learning, the course adapts flexibly to the needs of the students. The part-time bachelor's degree in Intercultural Management is located at the Rothenburg campus .

history

To relieve the Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences in Nuremberg , it was decided in 1991 to set up a department at the Nuremberg University of Applied Sciences in Ansbach. A founding advisory board was convened, which was chaired by the then rector of the Georg Simon Ohm University of Applied Sciences, Helmut Stahl. In 1992, Bernhard Krämer was appointed founding representative for the Business Administration II department at the Ansbach location. The planning application is carried out in 1992. In 1994, the Science Council took the view that the region of West Middle Franconia in principle for the establishment of an independent Fachhochschule Ansbach would be suitable, whereupon used a structure Advisory Board for the establishment of an independent college in Ansbach in order to develop a concept for the organization and for the technical division of the course offer. In 1996 the Bavarian State Parliament decided to set up the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences.

With effect from June 1, 1996, Bernhard Krämer was appointed President of Ansbach University of Applied Sciences . As part of a contract between the Free State of Bavaria and the city of Ansbach , the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences was provided with free space for a temporary office in Schalkhäuser Strasse and the material resources required to maintain business operations. The final housing of the college was to take place on part of the site of the former Hindenburg barracks. Within five months, lecture halls, seminar rooms, a temporary library, a modern PC pool, as well as rooms for general and student administration were built in three of the existing buildings on the barracks site (Buildings 5365, 5353 and 5370). Thus, the spatial requirements for starting the course on October 1, 1996 were created. From 1997 onwards, building 5351 was converted to accommodate engineering studies. This was followed by the renovation of the central building 5350, the expansion of the library in building 5370, as well as the construction of a laboratory and classroom building (5392) and the cafeteria (5387). The library extension was completed in 2011. In September 2012, the new building on the north site (5354) was inaugurated by the Bavarian State Minister for Science, Research and the Arts, Wolfgang Heubisch .

terrain

The campus, on which all buildings including the student dormitory are located, can be reached on foot from Ansbach train station in a quarter of an hour. It is located on the northern edge of the center of the city of Ansbach . Located in the middle of the campus is the “70s” building with the library, which was renovated in 2001 and expanded in 2011. The student dormitory in Schöneckerstraße and the new building 5354, completed in 2012, are located on the north site.

Soldiers were stationed on the site of today's university for over 250 years. In the 18th century, a Uhlan barracks was built according to plans by the margravial building director Carl Friedrich von Zocha . During the time of the German Empire , the Hindenburg barracks , built around 1900, replaced the outdated facility. This barracks was used by the German Army and later by the Reichswehr and Wehrmacht . After the end of the war in 1945, the site was taken over by US Army Europe and, after its withdrawal, handed over to the Free State of Bavaria by the US administration in 1992 . The area was divided. Today the university campus is located on the western part, while the Brücken-Center shopping center , which opened in 1997, is located on the eastern part . In August 2010, the remains of a baroque military cemetery with 70 graves were discovered during the construction work to expand the library. The bones found were archived in the State Anthropological Collection in Munich. After the excavation by the Bavarian State Office for the Preservation of Monuments, the construction work was successfully continued after a few weeks of interruption.

Admission restrictions

For all courses of study, admission to the course is regulated with a complete numerus clausus. In addition to the general conditions of admission, membership of the current or former national team of the Olympic professional associations is a prerequisite for admission to the Business International Management course .

Facilities

The library is located centrally on the campus and currently provides around 75,000 media in print and more than 200 million in electronic form on the subjects of business, technology, IT, law and multimedia. It has two reading rooms as well as several group rooms and lockable individual work cubicles. During the lecture times, the library is open on weekdays from 8:00 am to midnight. In addition to the possibility of borrowing media free of charge, the library team also organizes guided tours for school and student groups and offers regular events on the subject of scientific work. The library sees itself as a teaching library and trained around 2,200 people in 2017.

The university computer center offers numerous target group-specific IT services in the areas of messaging, file, print, application, account, support and cloud. In addition to public computer pools and a ServicePoint, the computer center handles the issue of the CampusCard, which enables cashless payment transactions on the entire campus. In addition, free software, hardware discounts and low-cost IT manuals can be purchased from the data center.

The cafeteria is operated by the Erlangen-Nürnberg Student Union and provides students and employees of the university with a daily hot lunch, salad bar and regional drinks. It offers over 300 seats and in summer a terrace in front.

The family and women's office helps find childcare options, supports students with children and offers advice and help on all aspects of family and studies. The ANke mentoring program is aimed at students and prospective students through competent and professional transfer of experience.

The International Office offers help with questions about studying and internships abroad, funding programs and partner universities (outgoing). It is also responsible for looking after international students (incoming). Ansbach University of Applied Sciences maintains contacts with partner universities within and outside Europe: Austria, France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Turkey, Ireland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Australia, India, Canada, the USA and China.

The Institute for Applied Sciences , with its institutes, competence centers and state-of-the-art laboratories and facilities affiliated with the university, offers a platform in the field of applied research and development and is thus part of the knowledge and technology transfer between university and business.
