history
The university founded by Diakonie Neuendettelsau was recognized as the Wilhelm Löhe University of Applied Sciences (WLH) by the Bavarian State Ministry for Science, Research and Art as a private university in autumn 2012. Regular study operations began in the 2012/2013 winter semester. The founding president was Peter Oberender (University of Bayreuth). After his death in February 2015, Dr. Ingo Friedrich took over the management of the university. Since October 2018, Dr. Reinhard Meier-Walser President of the University. Vice President for Research at the WLH and Head of the IDC Research Institute is Dr. Jürgen Zerth. The supporting company is “Wissenschaft und Research (WuF) GmbH”, a subsidiary of the Evangelical Lutheran Diakoniewerk Neuendettelsau KdöR. The campus around the so-called Schickedanz Villa is located in the Südstadtpark in Fürth.

The WLH is organized in a department structure. The departments are:

Full-time courses in Management in the Health and Social Market (BA) and Health Economics and Ethics (B.Sc.) are offered. The WLH also offers part-time courses such as social management (BA) and health and social management (MA). Since the 2015/2016 winter semester, it is also possible to study a consecutive master’s degree in Health Management and Ethics (MA).
The Institute for Academic Continuing Education (WLA) offered further part-time courses in cooperation with the Münster University of Applied Sciences until 2017. Since the 2017/2018 winter semester, it is possible to study vocational education for health, specializing in nursing (BA) and vocational education for health, specializing in rescue (BA) directly at Wilhelm Löhe University. In the 2018/2019 winter semester, the new subject area of vocational education for health, subject area medical assistance (BA) will be added. The target group for this are surgical assistants or anesthetic assistants with professional experience. Education in health care (MA) will continue to be taught in cooperation, while nursing alongside training as a substitute for dual nursing is now also offered directly by the Wilhelm Löhe University.
