The Ansbach University Library is a publicly accessible scientific library and central facility of the Ansbach University . It primarily serves to obtain literature and information within the university.
history
The library was opened when the university was founded in 1996. At first it was housed in the classrooms of the university, after the renovation work on the campus of the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences , it moved to today's library building in 2002. In 2011, an extension was completed with a second reading room, additional workstations and shelf space, a new training room, additional offices and individual workstations.
Stock and structure
The media spectrum mainly includes textbooks and application-related literature from the subjects taught at Ansbach University .
In addition to printed books, magazines and newspapers, electronic media such as CDs , DVDs , e-books , e-journals and databases are also available to users. In addition, e-reader , tablet , calculator and USB sticks available for loan. For books that are not in the library of the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences, there is the possibility of interlibrary loan throughout Germany .
The inventory of the library at Ansbach University of Applied Sciences is documented in an online catalog ( OPAC ). This can also be accessed outside the university and continues to include the holdings of the Ansbach State Library . In addition to inventory research and administration of the user account, this online catalog also enables the extended literature search in the Bavarian Library Network (with interlibrary loan ). The media are loaned and returned via RFID-controlled booking machines. The CampusCard serves as a user ID, which also enables use of the Ansbach State Library and the Ansbach University cafeteria . Once it has been activated, the CampusCard is also the access authorization during the unmanned opening times.
Furnishing
In addition to a quiet and a communicative reading room, four group work rooms, ten lockable individual workstations, as well as an OPAC area with computer workstations and several laptop workstations are available to users. In the communicative area there are two lounges, a press wall and a children's corner. A seminar room with laptops and an interactive whiteboard is used for training. In the OPAC area there are printers , copiers and a color document scanner with memory and email functions.
An action table in the communicative reading room provides information on interesting topics and with the book tip, library and university employees present a book from the current holdings at irregular intervals.
The library is handicapped accessible and offers changing facilities.
Teaching Library
The library sees itself as a teaching library and, in addition to general advice during staff-assisted opening times, also offers a wide range of further education and training measures. Newly enrolled students and interested school groups receive a 60- or 90-minute introduction to the topics of library use, catalog research, interlibrary loan and databases. The "Now I'm finally writing my work" day of action has been taking place every year since 2014. Students who are writing their thesis have the opportunity to take part in special training courses and almost all courses at Ansbach University take advantage of the opportunity to attend seminars on the subject of scientific work . This is partly done as part of courses with mandatory participation. Through the LUISE cooperation , pupils from the local technical and vocational school are taught how to use a scientific library .
Projects and Cooperations
LUISE
The LUISE cooperation, unique in Bavaria, has existed since October 2011 between the university library and the state technical and vocational college in Ansbach. Since the 2011/12 school year, pupils in grades 12 and 13 have received modular training from teachers and library staff. The aim of the project is to learn basic techniques for obtaining information from scientific sources, to develop research techniques and to increase the ability to write written work. The name LOUISE stands for: L learn ernen, U prove INDEPENDENCE, I nternet dominate, S develop trategies, E collect EXPERIENCE.

Discontinued final, project, study papers and research reports that are published via ANNE can be presented on a separate website and can be found across Bavaria via the OPAC and union catalog. The aim of the project is to make scientific publications created at Ansbach University more visible. The name ANNE stands for AN sbacher N achweis E lectronic Resources.
