Laura Marie Müller (born December 11, 1995 in Saarbrücken-Dudweiler , Saarland ) is a German athlete who specializes primarily in long sprints and also runs relay .

career path

Laura Müller attended the Gymnasium am Rotenbühl in Saarbrücken , one of around 40 elite schools for sports in Germany. In 2015 she graduated from high school and began studying psychology .

Athletic career

At the age of seven, Müller came into contact with athletics in elementary school. Since her ball sport was not good and she preferred to run and jump, Müller went to athletics with her friends. At first she tried different disciplines , trained for the all- around competition and was successful in the hurdles , but not a good thrower . So Müller found out her strength in the sprint through the all-around competition, initially over the 800 meters. After health problems, she decided to do the 400 meters at the age of 17.

From 2013, Müller concentrated on her parade route, became German U20 runner-up and qualified for the U20 European Championships in Rieti (Italy) , where she came in 7th in the individual over 400 meters and with the 4 x 400 -Meter relay won bronze.

In 2014 she became German U23 champion and recorded another international success at the U20 World Championships in Eugene (USA) with a 4th place in the individual and a bronze medal with the relay.

In 2015, Müller had waived a complete indoor season because of his Abitur preparations, but still managed a new personal best of 7.41 s over the 60 meters at the Saarland indoor championships in Saarbrücken . In the summer, in addition to the U23 runner-up , she also won the runner-up title over the 400 meters at the German championships in her first year of active activity . In addition to passing the Abitur and starting studies, the year brought a change of coach and club.

2016 started out disappointingly for Müller. She was able to feel like the German indoor champion for a few minutes until she was disqualified because she stepped on the line. In the summer she was nominated for the 4 x 400 meter relay at the European Championships in Amsterdam , where a 5th place was achieved. This was followed by the nomination for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where the season reached ninth place and thus missed the finals.

In 2017, Müller collided with a cameraman at the trial start before her 400-meter run at the German Indoor Championships , but still contested the race, was second fastest, but had to forego the final due to pain in the cervical vertebrae and declare the indoor season to be over. In the 200-meter distance she won the title at the German Junior Championships . In Lille , northern France , Müller was team European champion , in the 400-meter run and with the 4-by-400-meter relay she took third place. At the German championships she won the title in the 200-meter run. At the U23 European Championships in Bydgoszcz , Müller took second place over 400 meters in 52.42 s, and in the 4 x 400 meter relay she also won together with Hendrikje Richter , Nelly Schmidt and Hannah Mergenthaler  in 3:30, 18 min silver.

Müller belongs to the Olympic squad of the German Athletics Association (DLV) and was previously in the B-squad of the DLV.
