Ayako Kimura ( Japanese 木村 文 子 , Kimura Ayako; born June 11, 1988 in Hiroshima ) is a Japanese hurdler who specializes in the 100 meter distance .

Athletic career

Ayako Kimura gained her first international experience at the Asian Championships 2011 in Kobe , where she finished fourth. In 2012 she qualified for the Olympic Games in London , from which she was eliminated in advance . In 2013 she won the Asian Championships in Pune in front of Kazakh Anastassija Soprunowa . In 2014 she finished sixth at the Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech and won bronze at the Asian Games in Incheon .

She won bronze at the 2015 Asian Championships in Wuhan . Two years later she won the silver medal at the Asian Championships in Bhubaneshwar and qualified for the World Championships in London , where she reached the semi-finals . In 2018 she was sixth in the Continental Cup in Ostrava in 13.39 s and the following year she won the Asian Championships in Doha in 13.13 s . At the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama , together with Shunya Takayama , Masumi Aoki and Taiō Kanai, she won the silver medal in the first-ever hurdle pendulum relay . She also qualified for the World Championships in Doha, where she was eliminated with 13.19 s in the lead .

In 2011 and 2012, as well as in 2016 and 2017 and 2019, Kimura became the Japanese champion in the 100-meter hurdles.
