Shunya Takayama ( Japanese 高山 峻 野 ; born September 3, 1994 ) is a Japanese hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter distance .

Athletic career

Shunya Takayama gained his first international experience at the Junior World Championships 2012 in Barcelona , where he was eliminated with 14.06 s in the first round. In 2017 he finished fourth in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar in 13.65 s and qualified for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated with 13.65 s in the lead . The following year he took part for the first time in the Asian Games in Jakarta and won the bronze medal there in 13.48 s behind the Chinese Xie Wenjun and Chen Kuei-ru from Taiwan. In 2019 he finished fourth in 13.59 s at the Asian Championships in Doha . At the IAAF World Relays in Yokohama , he and Ayako Kimura , Masumi Aoki and Taiō Kanai won the silver medal in the hurdles pendulum relay, which was held for the first time. He also qualified for the World Championships in Doha, where he was eliminated in the semi- finals with 13.58 s .

In 2015, 2017 and 2019, Takayama became the Japanese champion in the 110-meter hurdles . He graduated from Meiji University in Tokyo with a law degree .
