Doping and those who suffer

The Turkish Nevin Yanıt , who initially came in fifth , was convicted of doping with stanozolol and testosterone in August 2013 and banned for three years. Your results have been retroactively canceled from June 28, 2012.

In addition to the athletes, who sometimes only received their medals several years later, the ones who suffered were the runners who were denied progress in the heats and semi-finals. In the second run, the Colombian Lina Florez ran 13.17 s and would have been eligible to start in the semi-finals. In the third semifinal race, the Russian Tatyana Dektjarjowa achieved 12.75 seconds, which would have been sufficient for a final participation over the time rule.

Prelims

Six preliminary runs were carried out. The first three athletes of each run qualified for the semi-finals. In addition, the six fastest drivers, the so-called lucky losers , made it through. The directly qualified runners are highlighted in light blue, the lucky losers in light green.

The Slovenian Marina Tomić in run 1 and the Russian Julija Kondakowa in run 6 achieved the same time with 13.10 s, both of which were the sixth fastest times of the lucky losers. Kondakowa was admitted to the semi-finals after the evaluation of the target photo showed that she was a thousandth of a second faster than Tomić. Kondakowa ran 13.091 s, Tomić 13.092 s.

final

All three US athletes had qualified for the final. There were also two Canadians and one participant each from Australia, Austria and Turkey.

The top favorite was Australian Sally Pearson, who, as the reigning world champion, met the 2008 Olympic champion Dawn Harper from the USA. The US runner Kellie Wells was also rated highly.

Pearson and Wells had the best start in the final race. Harper didn't find her rhythm until the middle of the race and now passed Wells. But Pearson came out on top and won the race with a new Olympic record . Harper was only two hundredths of a second behind her in second place with exactly the same time of the previously valid Olympic record of US American Joanna Hayes from the year 2004 . Wells came in third ahead of her teammate LoLo Jones.

Sally Pearson was the first Australian Olympic champion over the 100 meter hurdles.
