Odile Ahouanwanou (born January 5, 1991 in Savalou ) is a Beninese athlete who specializes in the heptathlon and the 100 meter hurdles , but is also the national record holder in other disciplines.

Athletic career

Ahouanwanou made his international debut at the 2012 African Championships in Porto-Novo , Benin. She took part in the heptathlon and was sixth with 4983 points, 941 points behind the gold medalist. Ahouanwanou's best results in the individual disciplines were fourth places in the javelin and shot put . At the Summer Olympics , she took part in the 100-meter hurdles. With 14.76 seconds she was eighth of the nine starters in the sixth heat and thus achieved a new national record for Benin.

Ahouanwanou's next big competition was to take part in the 2014 African Championships in Marrakech , where she finished eighth in the heptathlon with 4309 points. She was first in the shot put and in the javelin throw, but disqualified in the 100 m hurdles. In 2015 Ahouanwanou took part in the heptathlon at the Africa Games in Brazzaville and won the silver medal there with 5734 points behind the Nigerian Uhunoma Osazuwa . In the shot put and in the javelin throw she achieved the best performance of all participants, in the 200 m run she came second, in the high jump fourth, in the 100 m hurdles run fifth, seventh in the 800 m run and eighth in the long jump .

At the 10th TNT Express Meeting 2017 in Kladno, Czech Republic, she improved her national record to 6131 points, surpassing the 6000 point mark for the first time. She then won the Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku in the hurdle sprint in 13.55 s and was fifth in the shot put with 14.79 m. In addition, she finished fourth at the Francophonie Games in Abidjan with 14.78 m. With her performance she qualified for the World Championships in London, where she finished 19th with 6020 points . The following year she won the gold medal at the African Championships in Asaba with 5,999 points and also set a new national record in the long jump with 5.94 m. In 2019 she again took part in the African Games in Rabat , where she originally took fourth place in the shot put with 13.77 m and was eleventh in the high jump with 1.70 m. In retrospect, however, the former winner in the shot put, Oyesade Olatoye , was disqualified because of a missed deadline when changing countries and was awarded the bronze medal to Ahouanwanou. In addition, she was eliminated in the hurdles sprint with 14.42 seconds in the lead. With her victory at the African Championships in 2018, she received a wildcard for the World Championships , where she once again increased her own national record with 6210 and thus finished eighth .
