Janice Josephs (born March 31, 1982 in Cape Town ) is a South African heptathlete and long jumper . At a height of 1.60 m, she has a competition weight of around 60 kg.

Career

Heptathlon

Josephs played their first international competition in July 1999 at the 1st World Athletics Championships in Bydgoszcz , Poland , where they competed in the 200-meter run. She played her first major heptathlon in 2000 in Pietersburg , where she reached 5466 points. In 2004 she won the silver medal at the African Athletics Championships in Brazzaville with 5785 points. After she qualified for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens in the heptathlon, she finished 19th with 6074 points. At the 2005 World Athletics Championships in Helsinki, Finland, she gave up during the heptathlon.

In 2006 she competed in the heptathlon at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, Australia and was fifth with a personal best of 6181 points. At the African Championships in July 2006 she won the gold medal with 5876 points, with over 900 points ahead of the runner-up. From 2004 to 2006 she also won the South African league title in the heptathlon.

Long jump

In 2006 Josephs switched from the heptathlon to the long jump and became South African champion in the same year. At the Pan-African Games in 2007 in Algiers , she won the gold medal in the long jump with a personal best of 6.79 m and was eighth at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in 2008 . At the African Athletics Championships in 2008 she was also able to secure the gold medal in the long jump with 6.64 m. She also competed in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin in 2009 and at the 2010 World Indoor Athletics Championships in Doha , Qatar, but was eliminated in each qualification.
