Marthe Koala (born March 8, 1994 in Bobo-Dioulasso ) is a Burkinabe heptathlete and hurdler .

Athletic career

In 2011 Marthe Koala took part in an international championship for the first time, the World Youth Championships near Lille in the 200-meter run and was eliminated there with 25.80 seconds in the preliminary round. Then she took part for the first time in the Africa Games in Maputo and was there fifth in the heptathlon with 5133 points. The following year she retired at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in the 100-meter hurdles with 14.15 s in the first round, but received a bye from the Burkinabe Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games in London , where she with 13.91 s knocked out in advance . In 2013 she won the Junior African Championships in Réduit in 14.09 s and won the bronze medal in the long jump with 5.60 m. Then she finished seventh in the Games of the Francophonie in Nice in 13.75 s. In 2014 she won the African Championships in Marrakech with 5454 points in the heptathlon. So she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she could not finish her competition . She then won the bronze medal at the Africa Games in Brazzaville with 5664 points behind the Nigerian Uhunoma Osazuwa and Odile Ahouanwanou from Benin. In 2016 she won two silver medals at the African Championships in Durban, South Africa . With 5952 points she only had to admit defeat to Osazuwa in the heptathlon and in the hurdle sprint she lost out to South African Claudia Heunis in 13.36 s . She also received a start permit for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , but in which, like four years earlier, retired with 13.41 s in the preliminary round.

In 2017 she improved her own national record to over 6000 points for the first time at the Hypomeeting in Götzis. At the 10th TNT Express Meeting in Kladno, Czech Republic, she improved her national record by a further 200 points to 6230 points and qualified for the first time in the heptathlon for the World Championships in London. She then won the Francophonie Games in Abidjan in 13.32 s in the hurdles sprint and with 6.52 m in the long jump. At the World Championships, however, she only started in the hurdles and was eliminated there with 13.38 s in the first round . The following year, she won the silver medal behind the Beninese Ahouanwanou at the African Championships in Asaba with 5967 points and rose to 6.54 m in the long jump, with which she also won the silver medal there behind the Nigerian Ese Brume . In 2019 she won the silver medal behind the Finn Miia Sillman at the Summer Universiade in Naples with 6121 points and finished ninth in the long jump with 6.25 m. At the end of August she won the African Games in Rabat with 5866 points in the heptathlon and won the silver medal behind the Nigerian Tobi Amusan in the hurdles sprint in 13.20 seconds . At the beginning of October she took part in the World Championships in Doha , but had to end her competition there prematurely.
