Dawn Harper (since her marriage in 2013 Dawn Harper-Nelson ; born May 13, 1984 ) is an American hurdler and Olympic champion in the 100 meter hurdles .

The US and Pan-American youth champion from 2003 came third in the US eliminations for the Olympic Games in Beijing and surprisingly won the gold medal in 12.54 s, 4 hundredths of a second below her previous personal record.

At the 2011 World Athletics Championships in Daegu , she won the bronze medal in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 12.47 s. In London she was able to almost repeat her surprise success of 2008 at the 2012 Olympic Games . In the finals, Harper sprinted to a new personal record in 12.37 seconds and, as second, missed Olympic gold by just two hundredths.

In 2016, Harper tested positive for a diuretic during a doping control and was therefore banned for three months.

Dawn Harper is 1.68 m tall and weighs 61 kg. She comes from East St. Louis , studied psychology at UCLA from 2003 to 2006 and has lived in Los Angeles ever since , where she is trained by Bob Kersee. She starts for the sporting goods manufacturer Nike .
