Benita Fitzgerald-Brown

Benita Fitzgerald-Brown (born Fitzgerald ; born July 6, 1961 in Manassas , Virginia ) is a former American hurdler and Olympic champion .

Fitzgerald-Brown was a 15-time All-American champion in the 100 meter hurdles and US national champion in 1983 and 1986. She was the leading international runner in this discipline until 1986, when the Bulgarian Jordanka Donkowa broke the existing world record twice within one Hour broke.

In 1983 she was eighth at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki and won the Pan American Games in Caracas .

At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles she won the gold medal in front of the Briton Shirley Strong (silver) and the two thirds, the French Michèle Chardonnet and the American Kim Turner (both bronze).
