Maureen Nyatichi Thomas (born December 29, 1997 ) is a Kenyan sprinter .

Athletic career

Maureen Nyatichi Thomas gained her first international experience in 2014 at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , where she was eliminated with the Kenyan 4 x 100 meter relay with 46.00 s in the lead. She then took part in the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing , where she finished fourth in the 200-meter run in 24.43 s . The following year she finished sixth over 200 meters at the Junior African Championships in Addis Ababa in 24.79 s. In the 400-meter run , she then took part in the Africa Games in Brazzaville for the first time , where she was eliminated in the semifinals with 53.11 seconds. In addition, she finished fourth with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 44.75 s and won the silver medal behind Botswana with the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 35.91 minutes. In 2016 she also reached the semi-finals over 400 meters at the African Championships in Durban , where she retired with 53.17 seconds and won the bronze medal behind South Africa and Nigeria in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 30.21 minutes. She was then at the U20 World Championships in Bydgoszcz in 52.09 s fifth.

At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , she finished third with the mixed relay in 3: 19.43 min and retired with the 4 x 400-meter relay with 3: 31.26 minutes in the lead. In August she took part again in the Africa Games in Rabat , where she was eliminated over 200 meters with 24.53 s in the first round and with the 4 x 100 meter relay in 45.44 s, the bronze medal behind Nigeria and South Africa won, while they just missed a medal in fourth in the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 32.93 minutes.

In 2014, Thomas became the Kenyan champion in the 200-meter run.
