Abske Fides ( Latin without belief ) is a Death Doom and Funeral Doom band founded in 2003 .

history

The band Abske Fides was initiated in São Paulo in 2003 as part of a young generation of the South American extreme metal scene . The band released the demo CD Illness in 2006 and the EPs Apart of the World via Ostra Records and Disenlightment via Beneath the Fog Productions in 2009 . These first publications did not receive much international attention. Only the self-titled album released in 2012, which was released in cooperation with the Russian label Solitude Productions , was internationally reviewed and received. The reviews rated the album as an average to good release. In the same year the compilation of the two EPs, published jointly by several labels, was released, two years later the download single Terra Vazia , which was distributed via Bandcamp , and the album O Sol Fulmina a Terra, which was again released via several cooperating labels . Contrary to the reception of the debut album, there was no extensive international attention for these releases.

ideology

Because of their lyrics, the band is occasionally assigned to Black Metal or Black Doom . Guitarist Frederico "Nihil" describes the band members as atheists who do not belong to any religious community. Accordingly, like other organized religious communities , the Christian Church had no direct influence on the lives of musicians or their music. In contrast, he describes the texts as the product of a general skepticism .

“The songs of Abske Fides have always expressed a deep skepticism towards humanity and the values it has built up so far. So the only spiritual or religious component in our songs is just the product of our unbelief. "

- Frederico "Nihil" according to No Clean Singing

style

The webzine Doom-Metal.com describes the music played by Abske Fides as "dark and cold Doom / Death with funeral tendencies." So the music is repetitive but "always unique", at the same time it is just as "simple and raw" as it is from characterized by an atmosphere of “absolute misery”. In a review written for the Webzine Metal.de , the debut album is ascribed a dark and oppressive atmosphere.

Reviewers also assign the music to Death Doom and Funeral Doom, also referring to influences from Black Metal, Post-Rock and Post-Metal . As a prescriptive comparison, particular reference is made in reviews to performers of early Gothic Metal such as My Dying Bride , of Post-Metal such as Neurosis and Dirge and of Funeral Doom such as Shape of Despair and Reido . For the webzine Chronicles of Chaos, the music is described as "slow and thoughtful" but nuanced. The guitar playing is described as "apocalyptic riffing with the energy of gigantic tidal waves" that acts with "high-pitched solos and bass-heavy groove " and is reminiscent of neurosis. Meanwhile, the proximity to Neurosis continued in the dynamics of the pieces. In addition, the band uses elements that are atypical for metal, such as speech samples and the sound of a violin, which are seen in contrast to the otherwise harsh framework of the music.
