Nicholas Hough (born October 20, 1993 in Sydney ) is an Australian hurdler who specializes in the 110-meter hurdles .

Athletic career

Nicholas Hough gained his first international experience at the 2010 Youth Oceania Championships in Sydney , where he won the gold medal in the 100 and 200 meters as well as in the 110 meter hurdles and with the Australian 4 x 100 meter relay. He then won the gold medal in the hurdles and a bronze medal in a mixed relay at the first ever Youth Olympic Games in Singapore . Two years later he won the silver medal behind the Cuban Yordan O'Farrill at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona in 13.27 s and finished fifth with the relay. In 2013 he took part in the Summer Universiade in Kazan over 100 and 200 meters and reached the semifinals in both competitions.

In 2014 he took part for the first time in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow , Scotland , where he finished fourth in the final in 13.57 seconds. He was also disqualified with the Australian relay in the preliminary run. In 2015 he was eliminated from the Soomer Universiade in Gwangju over the hurdles in the first round and helped the Australian relay to a place in the final, in which he himself was no longer used. He also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he was eliminated with 13.69 s in the run . Two years later he qualified again for the World Championships in London , where he was eliminated in the first round with 13.61 s . Two weeks later, he finished sixth in the final of the Student World Games in Taipei .

In 2018, Hough took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham for the first time and reached the semi-finals there over 60 meter hurdles. In April he won the bronze medal in 13.38 s at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast .

In 2014 and 2015, as well as 2017 and 2018, Hough was the Australian champion in the 110-meter hurdles. He is a student at Sydney University .
