Lucas da Silva Carvalho (born July 16, 1993 ) is a Brazilian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run and competed in the hurdles at the beginning of his career .

Athletic career

Lucas Carvalho gained his first experience at international championships in 2010 when he won the bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.26 seconds at the South American Youth Championships in Santiago de Chile . The following year he secured the silver medal at the Junior South American Championships in Medellín in 13.92 s and in 2012 he was eliminated from the semi-finals at the Junior World Championships in Barcelona with 13.93 s. From then on, he focused on the 400-meter run and started in the Ibero-American Championships in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 with the Brazilian 4 x 400 meter relay, but was disqualified there. At the IAAF World Relays 2017 in the Bahamas , he finished seventh in 3: 05.96 minutes and then won the silver medal behind the team from Colombia in 3: 07.32 minutes at the South American Championships in Luque and finished in Fourth place in the individual competition over 400 meters in 46.11 s. He also qualified for the World Championships in London , where he retired over 400 meters with 45.86 s in the first round and 3: 04.02 min were not enough for a final in the relay .

In 2018 he won the South American Games in Cochabamba in 45.61 s over 400 meters and won the bronze medal behind the teams from Colombia and Venezuela in 39.54 s with the 4 x 100 meter relay. Then he also won the Ibero-American Championships in Trujillo in 45.92 s over 400 meters. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama he finished sixth in 3: 20.71 minutes and then won the silver medal in the individual competition at the South American Championships in Lima in 46.12 seconds behind the Colombian Anthony Zambrano and also won the relay in 3 : 04.13 min the silver medal behind Colombia. In late summer he retired from the World Championships in Doha with 46.01 s in the first round and finished eighth in the mixed relay with 3: 16.22 min. He was then at the Military World Games in Wuhan with the season in 3: 06.82 min fifth.

In 2017 and 2018 Carvalho became the Brazilian champion in the 400-meter run.
