Nadine Gonska (born January 23, 1990 in Duisburg , North Rhine-Westphalia ) is a German athlete who specializes in sprints . Until 2017, her focus was mainly on the 200-meter run , but since then she has also increasingly competed in the 400-meter run .

career path

Gonska studied primary school teaching at the Heidelberg University of Education and is a teacher at the Graf-von-Oberndorff-Schule in Edingen-Neckarhausen.

Athletic career

Nadine Gonska, who grew up in Langenlonsheim , started athletics at her home club TV Langenlonsheim at the age of 7. In 2003 she moved to MTV Bad Kreuznach . During this time her focus was on the long jump, only when she switched to MTG Mannheim in 2011 did she concentrate on the 100 and 200 meter sprint courses.

In 2012, her first participation in the German championships in Bochum-Wattenscheid in the 4 x 100 meter relay of MTG Mannheim brought her the silver medal. In 2013, a gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay and a bronze medal in the 200 meters followed at the German championships in Ulm . In 2014 she won the 4 x 100 meter relay with MTG Mannheim at the German Championships , also in Ulm, and achieved second place in the 200 meters.

In 2014 she was part of the German relay team at the European Championships in Zurich , but was not used. This then took place at the IAAF World Relays 2015 , where she won the bronze medal over the 4 x 200 meter course together with Josefina Elsler, Rebekka Haase and Anne Christina Haack .

In 2016 Gonska won the bronze medal in the 200 meters and the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay at the German Championships in Kassel and had her first international individual start at the European Championships in Amsterdam , where she reached the semi-finals over the 200 meters . At this distance she overtook the preliminary round at the Olympic Games in Rio with 23.03 s.

In 2017, Gonska came third in the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig in the 200-meter run . In Belgrade she took 6th place at the European Indoor Championships with the 4 x 400 meter relay . She became the European team champion in Lille , northern France , to which she contributed by placing third in the 4 x 400 meter relay. At the German Championships in Erfurt, she again won a bronze medal in the 200 meters and the gold medal in the 4 x 100 meter relay. Together with her teammates Ricarda Lobe , Alexandra Burghardt and Yasmin Kwadwo, she achieved a new championship record.

In 2018, Gonska was runner-up at the German Indoor Championships in Dortmund with the 4 x 200 meter relay. Over 400 meters she won the title and secured participation in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham . There she ran in her preliminary run with 52.77 s indoor best time and thus qualified for the semifinals, in which she was eliminated. At the German Championships in Nuremberg , Gonska won double gold, on the stadium lap and with the 4 x 100 meter relay.

In 2019 she won double gold again; this time at the German Indoor Championships in Leipzig with the 4 x 200 meter relay and over 400 meters. During her participation in the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow Gonska could not qualify for the final in the 400-meter run. In the run-up to the World Relays in Yokohama ( Japan ), she ran in the 4 x 400 meter mixed relay with a German record of 3: 16.85 minutes. In the final, the season reached the 7th place. She won another championship title at the German Championships in Berlin with the 4 x 100 meter relay and reached 4th place over 400 meters. In Bydgoszcz she was with the team European team champion , to which she contributed with a fifth place with the 4 x 400 meter relay.

In 2020 Gonska was unable to defend her indoor title because she had to forego participation in the German indoor championships due to glandular fever .
