Julian Jrummi Walsh (born September 18, 1996 in Kingston ) is a Japanese - Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run and is particularly successful with the Japanese 4-by-400-meter relay .

Athletic career

Julian Walsh gained his first international experience at the 2014 Junior World Championships in Eugene , where he won the silver medal behind the team from the United States in 3: 04.11 minutes with the Japanese 4 x 400 meter relay. At the Athletics Continental Cup in Marrakech , he was fourth with the Asia-Pacific team. At the IAAF World Relays 2015 in the Bahamas he was eliminated in the first round, but won the bronze medal at the Asian Championships in Wuhan in 3: 03.47 min, as well as at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju in 3: 07.75 min . The following year he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 46.37 s in the first round . In addition, he could not qualify for the final with the relay .

In 2017 he took part again in the World Relays , but could not finish there with the relay. In 2018 he took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta for the first time , where he was fifth in the individual competition in 45.89 s and won the bronze medal behind Qatar and India in 3: 01.94 min. The following year he placed fifth at the Asian Championships in Doha in 45.55 s and won the Japanese season in 3: 02.94 min. He then finished fourth at the World Relays in Yokohama with the 4 x 400 meter relay in 3: 03.24 min. At the beginning of October he made it to the semi-finals at the World Championships in Doha over 400 meters , in which he was eliminated with a new best of 45.13 s. In addition, he retired with the Japanese 4 x 400 meter relay with 3: 02.05 min in advance.

In 2016, 2018 and 2019, Walsh became the Japanese champion in the 400-meter run.

Personal

At the age of three he moved to Higashimurayama with his father, the Jamaican musician Imanuel Walsh, and his Japanese mother . He completed a degree in health and sports science at Tōyō University .
