Javon Francis (born December 14, 1994 in Kingston ) is a Jamaican sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Javon Francis gained his first international experience in 2012 at the CARIFTA Games in Hamilton , where he took eighth place over 400 meters in the final and won the bronze medal with the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay. He then won the gold medal with the relay at the Central America and Caribbean Junior Championships in San Salvador . Shortly afterwards he took part in the Junior World Championships in Barcelona , where he finished ninth in the final over 400 meters. With the Jamaican season he reached number five. In 2013 Francis qualified for the World Championships in Moscow , where he reached the semi-finals in the individual competition and won silver with the Jamaican team in 2: 58.16 minutes in the 4 x 400 meter relay .

Two years later he finished fourth with the season at the World Relays in the Bahamas . He qualified again for the World Championships in Beijing , where he again reached the semifinals over 400 meters . With the Jamaican relay he finished fourth in the final with 2: 58.51 s. In 2016 he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated in the semifinals over 400 meters with 44.96 s . With the Jamaican 4 x 400 meter relay, he won the silver medal behind the United States in the final with 2: 58.16 minutes.

In 2017 he won the silver medal at the World Relays with the Jamaican relay . In 2018 he took part in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham for the first time and reached the semi-finals there. In April he won the bronze medal in the 400-meter run behind the two Botswans Isaac Makwala and Baboloki Thebe at the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast in 45.11 seconds . On the final day of the games he also won the bronze medal in 3: 01.97 min with the Jamaican relay.

In 2015 and 2016, Francis was Jamaican champion over 400 meters.
