Jon Randolph Seeliger (born April 27, 1995 ) is a South African sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Jon Seeliger gained his first experience at international championships at the Junior African Championships 2013 in Réduit , where he finished fifth in the 400 meter run in 47.89 s. The following year he retired at the Junior World Championships in Eugene in the 200-meter run with 21.70 s in the first round and was disqualified with the South African 4-by-400-meter relay in the finals and was eliminated with the 4 times -100 meter relay with 40.64 s in the preliminary round. In 2015 he took part in the Summer Universiade in Gwangju for the first time and reached the semifinals over 400 meters, in which he was eliminated with 46.31 seconds. In addition, he was disqualified in the final with the 4 x 400 meter relay. The following year he took part with the relay at the World Indoor Championships in Portland , but did not reach the final with 3: 08.45 min. At the end of June he won the bronze medal at the African Championships in Durban in 3: 04.73 minutes with the relay behind the teams from Botswana and Kenya. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , he set a new African record with the 4 x 200 meter relay in 1: 20.64 minutes, placing himself in second place behind the United States. He then made it to the semifinals at the Student World Games in Naples over 400 meters and was eliminated there with 47.60 seconds. In addition, he won the silver medal behind Mexico in the 4-by-400-meter relay in 3: 03.23 minutes and could not finish the prelim in the 4-by-100-meter relay.

In 2016, Seeliger became South African champion in the 4 x 400 meter relay. He is a student at the University of Pretoria .
