Hellen Syombua gained her first international experience at the 2014 African Youth Games in Gaborone , where she won the silver medal in the 200-meter run in 24.77 seconds. The following year she reached the African Games in Brazzaville over 400 meters to the semifinals, in which she was eliminated with 53.05 s. In addition, she won the silver medal there in 3: 35.91 min with the Kenyan 4 x 400 meter relay behind Botswana. In 2016 she was eliminated at the African Championships in Durban with 58.29 s in the first round and in 2018 she reached the semi-finals at the African Championships in Asaba over 200 meters, in which she was eliminated with 24.36 s. In addition, she won the silver medal behind Nigeria in 3: 35.45 min. At the IAAF World Relays 2019 in Yokohama , she was eliminated with the women's relay with 3: 31.26 minutes in the preliminary round, while as part of the mixed relay she won the bronze medal in 3: 19.43 minutes. In August she took part again in the Africa Games in Rabat , where she retired over 400 meters with 58.83 s in the first round and finished fourth in the Kenyan relay in 3: 32.93 minutes. Over 400 meters she qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she was eliminated with 57.07 s in the first round .
