Dmitry Vasilyevich Karpov ( Russian Дмитрий Васильевич Карпов ., English transcription Dmitriy Karpov * 23. July 1981 in Karaganda ) is a former Kazakh decathlete Russian origin. He was a third Olympic champion in 2004.

Karpov finished second at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan . In 2003 it exceeded the 8000 point limit for the first time. He finished third at the 2003 World Championships in Paris / Saint-Denis with 8374 points. Only Tom Pappas and Roman Šebrle lay in front of him.

At the World Indoor Championships in 2004 , he was fourth in the heptathlon with the Asian record of 6155 points. Outdoors, he improved the Asian record in the decathlon twice in 2004. First he took second place behind Šebrle at the Mösle all-around meeting in Götzis with 8512 points. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, he then increased to 8725 points and won the bronze medal behind Šebrle and Bryan Clay .

After a weak year in 2005, he won the 2006 IAAF World Combined Events Challenge . After finishing second behind Clay in Götzis, he won the meetings in Ratingen and Talence. At the beginning of December he won the Asian Games in Doha . In 2007 he finished third behind Roman Šebrle and Maurice Smith at the World Championships in Osaka with 8586 points .

At the Indoor World Championships in 2008 Karpov won the bronze medal, but he could not finish the decathlon at the Olympic Games in Beijing. He also took part in the 2009 and 2011 World Championships and the 2012 Olympic Games , but did not manage to place in the top ten.

At a height of 1.98 m, his competition weight is 94 kg.
