Akihiko Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 明彦 , Nakamura Akihiko ; born October 23, 1990 in Nagoya ) is a Japanese athlete who specializes in the decathlon , but also competes in other disciplines.

Athletic career

Akihiko Nakamura gained his first international experience at the 2007 Youth World Championships in Ostrava , where he was eliminated from the qualification with a 2.04 m high jump. In 2011 he won the silver medal behind the Iranian Hadi Sepehrzad at the Asian Championships in Kobe with 7,478 points . In 2012 he qualified in the 400 meter hurdles for the Olympic Games in London and was disqualified in the preliminary stages. He finished the 2013 Asian Championships in Pune with 7620 points in the silver medal behind Kazakhs Dmitri Karpov . The following year he also won the silver medal behind Karpow at the Asian Indoor Championships in Hangzhou with 5693 points and won bronze at the Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, with 7828 points. In 2015 he won the Asian Championships in Wuhan with 7773 points and qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where he finished 16th with 7745 points . In 2016 he also won the heptathlon with 5831 points at the Asian Indoor Championships in Doha . In the summer he took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and finished 22nd with 7612 points .

He also took part in the World Championships in London in 2017 and this time came 19th with 7,646 points . When he next took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta in 2018 , he won the bronze medal again with 7738 points behind his compatriot Keisuke Ushiro and the Thai Sutthisak Singkhon . The following year he won at the Asian Championships in Doha with 7837 points, the bronze medal behind UShiro and the Kuwaiti Majed Radhi al-Sayed .

In 2017 Nakamura became Japanese champion in the decathlon and in 2018 in the 1,500 meter run.
