Grzegorz Filipowski (born July 28, 1966 in Łódź ) is a former Polish figure skater who started in a single run .
Filipowski is considered to be the best figure skater in the history of Polish figure skating. The Polish champion from 1981 to 1986 achieved his first major international success when he won the bronze medal at the European Figure Skating Championships in 1985 . At the European Championship in 1989 he was even able to win the silver medal behind the Russian Alexander Fadejew .
He celebrated his greatest success at the World Figure Skating Championships in Paris in 1989 when he was the only Pole to win a podium at a World Cup. He won the bronze medal behind the Canadian Kurt Browning and the American Christopher Bowman . This made him the best European in the title fights.
Filipowski took part in the Olympic Games three times: Sarajevo 1984 , Calgary 1988 and Albertville 1992 . His best finish in the Olympics was fifth in Calgary . After the games of Albertville and the subsequent World Championships , he ended his amateur career and turned professional. In 1997 he finally ended his active career. Today he lives in Canada and works as a trainer for short track .
Filipowski was the first figure skater to show a combination with two triple jumps ( Rittbergers ).
