Knut Schubert (born September 9, 1958 in Bautzen ) is a German figure skater and figure skating coach, especially for sports couples.

Life

Knut Schubert started figure skating at the age of nine. He started for SC Dynamo Berlin and was trained by Heidemarie Steiner-Walther . He became a pair skater and initially ran with his sister Katja Schubert. He later started with Birgit Lorenz .

After his active figure skating career, he studied sports science at the DHfK Leipzig . Today he is head coach pair skating with A license at SC Berlin.

As a trainer he looked after the sports couples Peggy Schwarz and Alexander König , Peggy Schwarz and Mirko Müller , Mariana Kautz and Norman Jeschke , Mikkeline Kierkgaard and Norman Jeschke as well as Sarah Jentgens and Mirko Müller. In the early 1990s he was in charge of the ice dance couple Kati Winkler and René Lohse . As a trainer, he moved from Berlin to Dortmund, where he initially trained the couples Rebecca Handke and Daniel Wende (until 2007), Jekaterina Wassiliewa and Daniel Wende (until 2008) and Mari-Doris Vartmann and Florian Just (until 2009).

Since then he has been training Mari-Doris Vartmann and Aaron Van Cleave again in Berlin until they split up. He trained this couple on a voluntary basis.

Knut Schubert is married and has two children. His daughter Pauline Schubert was also a figure skater.
