Uwe Bewersdorf (born November 4, 1958 in Freital ) is a German figure skater who started in pair skating for the GDR .

Career

Bewersdorf started figure skating at the BSG Post Dresden at the age of seven . The section of this BSG was transferred to the BSG Verkehrsbetriebe Dresden in 1972. Their corresponding section was finally attached to the SC Einheit Dresden , for which he then also stood. He trained with Uta Hohenhaus . His figure skating partner was Manuela Mager .

In 1977 and 1978 Uwe Bewersdorf and Manuela Mager became GDR champions . In 1977 they also made their debut at major international tournaments. At the European Championships in Helsinki they were fourth and at the World Championships in Tokyo fifth. In 1978 they won their first medals. At the European Championships in Strasbourg they won the bronze medal behind the Soviet couples Irina Rodnina and Alexander Saizew as well as Marina Cherkassova and Sergei Shachrai and in Ottawa they were runner-up behind Rodnina / Saizew. In 1979 they did not contest any competitions. In 1980 it was enough for her as the reigning GDR runner-up behind Sabine Baeß and Tassilo Thierbach at the European championship only to fifth place. A little later, Bewersdorf and Mager won Olympic bronze in Lake Placid and, after Rodnina / Saizew resigned, became vice world champions in Dortmund behind Cherkassova and Shachrai.

The couple Mager / Bewersdorf were the first couple in the world to show the triple Wurfrittberger in a competition . Because Manuela Mager ended her figure skating career in 1980, Bewersdorf had to look for a new partner. So he then trained with Marina Schulz. However, the couple failed to qualify for international championships.

Uwe Bewersdorf studied at the DHfK Leipzig . Today he is an accountant in Baden-Württemberg .

His last name is sometimes also written Bewersdorff, i.e. with a double-F. This is the result of an incorrect official administrative act. His parents are only written with an F.
