Manuela Groß (born January 29, 1957 in Berlin ) is a former German figure skater who started pair skating for the GDR .

She started figure skating in Berlin with the trainer Hildegard Taupadel. She started since 1967 in the sports couple with Uwe Kagelmann for SC Dynamo Berlin . Your trainer was Heinz Lindner .

In 1969 and 1970 Groß and Kagelmann were GDR runner-up behind Heidemarie Steiner and Heinz-Ulrich Walther . They made their international debut at the 1969 European Championships in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , where they finished seventh. Her world championship debut followed a year later in Ljubljana and also ended in seventh place when Steiner and Walther won bronze medals. In 1971, 1972 and 1974 Kagelmann and Groß became GDR champions . From 1971 to the end of their career in 1976, they did not end a world - u. European championship worse than in fourth place. They won their first medal at the European Championships in Göteborg in 1972 . Also at the Olympic Games in Sapporo a little later, Groß and Kagelmann won the bronze medal behind the Soviet couples Irina Rodnina and Alexei Ulanow as well as Lyudmila Smirnova and Andrei Suraikin . The GDR couple won their first world championship medal in 1973 in Bratislava with bronze behind the newly formed couples from the Soviet Union Irina Rodnina and Alexander Saizew as well as Lyudmila Smirnowa and Alexei Ulanow. 1974 cost the reigning GDR champions Groß and Kagelmann a medal for their competition from their own country. Romy Kermer and Rolf Oesterreich finished both the European and World Championships ahead of them, pushing them to fourth place. In 1975 and 1976 they were replaced by Kermer and Austria at the national championships as the best GDR pair. Nevertheless, 1975 was the most successful year for Groß and Kagelmann. They won the bronze medal both at the European Championships in Copenhagen and at the World Championships in Colorado Springs , both times behind Rodnina / Saizew and Kermer / Austria. This result was repeated at the 1976 Olympic Games in Innsbruck . Four years after Sapporo, Groß and Kagelmann again won Olympic bronze. This result was not expected after they had finished fourth at the European Championships shortly before and the Soviet couple Irina Vorobjowa and Alexander Vlasow had to pass. However, the couple from the Soviet Union made mistakes at the Olympic Games and so it was enough for the GDR runner-up to the bronze medal, extremely close ahead of the Soviet runners and the couple Tai Babilonia and Randy Gardner from the USA . The last appearance of the couple Groß and Kagelmann followed at the 1976 World Cup . Here the tide turned again and as fourth they just missed a medal against Vorobyova and Vlasov.

The trio Groß / Kagelmann / Lindner invented the new jumping and pair skating element "GroKaLi". Manuela Groß and Uwe Kagelmann were the first couple in the world to show the double throwing axel (December 1971 in Moscow) and the triple throwing load .

Grown up became a trainer at SC Berlin and today trains many figure skaters and works as a judge.
