Alexander König (born August 23, 1966 in Eilenburg ) is a German figure skating coach and former figure skater .

Active career

His family moved from Eilenburg to Berlin in 1969 . Here he started figure skating at the age of six. Alexander König started for SC Dynamo Berlin and SC Berlin. One of his first trainers was Inge Wischnewski . At first he was a single runner. In this discipline he was third in the Junior World Championships in 1982 . He started pair skating in 1985 and has been running with Peggy Schwarz ever since . The couple, whose greatest success was winning the bronze medal at the European Championships in 1988, was trained by Hedemarie Steiner-Walther . In 1990 Peggy Schwarz and Alexander König changed their coach. From then on, Knut Schubert was the coach. In 1994 she separated from Peggy Schwarz because she was expecting a child. King then ended his figure skating career.

Coaching career

From 1994 to 1997, König completed his studies at the trainer academy in Cologne . So he is a state-certified ice skating instructor with an A license from the German Ice Skating Union. During this time he was already working as a figure skating coach in Stuttgart . This was followed by a trainer activity in Chemnitz until 2001 . From 2001 to 2008 Alexander König worked as a figure skating coach in Berlin. Since 2008 he has been working as a trainer and assistant to Michael Huth in Oberstdorf . Alexander König is also a judge and can, according to the new rating system, be employed as a technical specialist.

In October 2014, König began to train in Oberstdorf Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot , who became Olympic champions in the pair skating competition at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang on February 15, 2018 and world champions at the World Championships in Milan on March 22, 2018 .

Other activities

He has been an autodidactic painter since 1983 and also exhibits his pictures. From 1985 to 1988 Alexander König completed an apprenticeship as a skilled worker for hotels and restaurants in the GDR.
