Olympic uniqueness

Figure skating is the only Olympic discipline that was played as a discipline at both the Summer Olympics and the Winter Games. Even before the first Olympic Winter Games took place in Chamonix in 1924 , figure skating was already Olympic at the Summer Games in London in 1908 and in Antwerp in 1920 .

Thus, the Austrian Figure Skating Federation has the national uniqueness that it was represented with the same sport and discipline at both the Olympic Summer and Winter Games.

Successes at world championships

Similar to the Olympic Games, the Austrian Figure Skating Federation is also the most successful nation after Russia and the USA at world championships. Since the first world championships in 1896, Austria has won a total of 116 medals, 36 of which were gold, 46 silver and 34 bronze.

The most successful Austrian runners at the world championships were Herma Szabo with five gold medals and Trixi Schuba with two gold and two silver medals. In the men's race, Karl Schäfer even won gold seven times, Willy Böckl four times and Emmerich Danzer three times. Claudia Kristofics-Binder won the last medals for the Austrian Figure Skating Association with two bronze medals at the world championships in 1981 and 1982.
