Argentina's Sportsman of the Year

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Argentina's Sportsman of the Year (Spanish Premios Olimpia ) is one of the most important sports awards in Argentina , which has been awarded annually since 1954 by the Sports Journalists Association of Buenos Aires (Spanish Círculo de Periodistas Deportivos de Buenos Aires) to the best athletes in the country. Until 1970, only one athlete received this award annually. Since then, the best athletes from every discipline have been awarded the silver Olimpia de Plata prize. The gold winners ( Olimpia de Oro ) are selected from these .

history

The racing driver Juan Manuel Fangio was the first to receive the award . So far, the awards have been given to the Olimpia de Plata , Olimpia de Oro and Olimpia de Platino . Diego Maradona was the only one to receive the platinum award after being named the best athlete of the 20th century. Olimpia de Oro has only been awarded to a team once , when the 2000 Argentine women's selection in hockey (also known as Las Leonas ) was awarded.
