Eduardo Romero (born July 17, 1954 in Córdoba , Argentina ) is one of the most successful Argentine professional golfers .

Career

He started relatively late (1982) as a professional golfer and initially played the Latin American tour. In 1985 he came to the European Tour for the first time and has established himself there since 1989. Romero is a reliable golfer and has so far had eight tournament wins and seven placements in the top 20 of the money list , in his best year (2002) he was fifth.

In 2004 - at the age of 50 - Romero took second place at the British Senior Open , a Senior Major , when he first started as a senior . Two years later he was able to repeat this result and only lost in the jump-off against the American Loren Roberts . Romero is also active on the North American Champions Tour and won his first tournament there in August 2006, this time a Senior Major . Another success followed in 2008 and in August Romero won his second Senior Major title at the US Senior Open .

Romero won more than 80 tournaments in Latin America , he represented his country 14 times (record) in the World Cup and eight times in the Dunhill Cup , and also took part in the UBS Cup in 2002 and 2003 .

His nickname is El Gato , the cat, because he seems to be taking part in the tournament and then suddenly strikes and "captures" the victory. Romero has done a lot for golf in Argentina and his role model effect has already produced some very good professional golfers. Particularly noteworthy is his protégé Ángel Cabrera , who has already followed in the footsteps of his mentor and who already has two major titles with his victories at the 2007 US Open and the 2009 Masters .
