Loren Roberts (born June 24, 1955 in San Luis Obispo , California ) is an American professional golfer on the Champions Tour . Because of his strength in putting he is reverently called "Boss of the Moss" by his colleagues.

Career

Roberts became a professional golfer in 1975 , but wasn't able to claim his first title on the PGA TOUR until he was almost forty . In 1994 he only missed a major win at the US Open in the jump-off (after 20 holes) against eventual winners Ernie Els and Colin Montgomerie . In total, he won eight tournaments and won over $ 15 million in career prize money.

Loren Roberts played once in the Ryder Cup (1995), twice victorious in the Presidents Cup (1994 and 2000) and represented the USA in the UBS Cup 2001. For the Ryder Cup 2006 he was nominated by captain Tom Lehman as vice-captain.

In 2005 he went to the Champions Tour and won a Senior Major in his first season . In 2006, four more victories followed, including a senior major, the Senior British Open in July, which Roberts won in the jump-off against the Argentine Eduardo Romero . In 2007 he won his third major with the Senior Players Championship . The fourth major victory followed in July 2009 - Roberts won the Senior British Open for the second time.

With his professional colleagues Scott Simpson and Larry Mize he wrote the golf book Focus: The Name of the Game in 1999 .
