Britney: Piece of Me

Britney: Piece of Me was the first time show of American pop - singer Britney Spears in Las Vegas . The show took place in the AXIS Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino . Originally 100 appearances were planned in a period from December 2013 to mid-2015. In early 2014 the show was extended to 2017.

background

The show was officially announced on the television program Good Morning America on September 17, 2013 . Over 1,000 Spears doppelgangers gathered in the Nevada desert . Using pieces of card, they formed an enlarged version of the show's advertising poster, which allegedly could even be seen from space . Spears came by helicopter and gave an interview. She reportedly makes $ 15 million a year from her performances. Artists and celebrities such as Katy Perry , Selena Gomez , Miley Cyrus , Paris Hilton , Bruno Mars , Beyoncé , Jay-Z , Jennifer Lopez , Anna Kendrick , Nick Jonas , Calvin Harris , Kirsten Dunst , Sia and Lady Gaga have attended the show and in part participated in various performances as a guest.

development

The venue was completely renovated at the end of October 2012. Over $ 20 million was invested in new lighting, sound and stage technology. The stage was expanded, which resulted in the capacity of the venue shrinking to 4600 spectators. The show began on December 27, 2013, shortly after the release of their eighth studio album, Britney Jean . Ticket prices vary between $ 59 and $ 179.

Baz Halpin was hired to direct the show. Marco Morante is responsible for the costumes. The duration of the show is around 90 to 100 minutes. A total of 24 of Spears hits are presented. The venue is also equipped with a 360 degree media wall. 14 dancers and a band of four were hired for the show. Larry Rudolph , her longtime manager, announced that Spears would be completely without playback during the show. He also says that Spears took singing lessons specifically for the show to help strengthen her voice.

reception

Reviews

The show received mostly positive reviews. Above all, the production and the atmosphere were praised. Many critics see Spears' place in the pop music world with the show. The use of playbacks is the most common negative point of criticism.

Viewed through a lens of diminished expectations, Britney: Piece of Me is an entertaining tour through the 32-year-old star's nearly 15-year recording career.

Eye candy was everywhere, whether in the form of the taut dancers' bodies or the lavish sets, none more so than the Circus-themed number featuring creepy human marionettes and raging flames, with Spears delivered on stage in the middle of a ring of fire . When she sang, "All eyes on me in the center of the ring," it was redundant. [...] One longed for a bit more intimacy from Spears, especially on opening night with stars on hand. But if the singer has been consistent on one point over the years it's that she's actually shy by nature. [...] She may not be the 18-year-old girl next door who shocked the world silly, but she's still a force to be reckoned with.

Spears delivered on her signature style of larger-than-life production, blaring beats and rapid-fire dance moves, whirling through seven costume changes and even a couple of wig changes.

Commercial win

Poor sales were forecast a few days after the show's tickets went on sale. Only three of the 16 shows for which tickets could be obtained were sold out. Many critics referred to the live-vs-playback rumors as the main problem. Spears' manager said that Caesars Entertainment was only selling 10% of the available tickets for each show. Furthermore, all VIP seats for all 16 shows were sold out within hours. The Huffington Post reported that 70,242 of 73,600 tickets had been sold as of September 25. In December 2013, Planet Hollywood announced that if successful, the show would be extended, which it did in early 2014. By December 2014, over 250,000 people had attended the show and generated more than $ 38 million in revenue.

Course of the show

The show begins with a video clip. You can see a young girl who is supposed to represent Spears. While she rehearses in her room, excerpts from Spears' television appearances and her tours can be seen again and again. The instrumental of the opening number Work Bitch is playing in the background . A cage with Spears floats onto the stage and she and her dancers perform the choreography from the video for Work Bitch . Then she presents a slightly shortened version of her number one hit Womanizer, which is also the first time she uses the B stage. A brief greeting follows, and the show moves on to its next number one hit, 3 .

The second act also begins with a video clip. This time you see Spears disguised as an angel in a sky-like environment. A white veil is removed from her face and she speaks to the audience:

Someone once told me: Go beyond reason to love. It is safe. It is the only safety. Love all you can, and when you're ready, all will be shown to you.

The screen darkens again and the song Everytime begins. While flower blossoms float from the ceiling in the hall, the video screen opens and Spears floats towards the stage. The song ends prematurely and turns into a dark melody. Spears replaces the white angel costume with a black costume and presents a medley of her hits ... Baby One More Time and Oops! ... I did it again .

The third part of the show begins with a compilation of their most famous music videos, including … Baby One More Time , Stronger , I'm a Slave 4 U , Toxic and Gimme More . The song Me Against the Music sounds; Spears appears on stage and dances with her dancers. In contrast to previous appearances and tours, the passages of Madonna were completely dispensed with. This is followed by a medley of Gimme More and Break the Ice . This act ends with the theme song of the long-running show; '' Piece of Me ''.

The fourth act of the show is introduced by a video from Will.i.am , while Scream & Shout can be heard in the background . Spears appears on stage and sings a remix of Scream & Shout and Boys . Spears speaks to the audience again and sings Perfume .

The fifth part of the show opens with individual dancers dancing to a remix of Get Naked (I Got a Plan) . Spears, sitting on a throne, sings the title I'm a Slave 4 U . Then a volunteer for the next title will be sought from the audience. Most of the time it is a prominent guest. In the course of the next track, Freakshow, Spears playfully whips him and puts him on a leash. This is followed by the title Do Somethin ' , which has since been replaced by Alien , a song from their eighth studio album, Britney Jean .

The sixth act begins with a circus-oriented cutscene in which the rest of the stage set is dismantled and set up at the same time. A ring of fire appears, in which Spears is and sings the title Circus . Next up is I Wanna Go , and this part of the show ends with an abridged version of Lucky .

The seventh and final act of the show begins with a dance sequence. The set is like a jungle landscape, and a seven meter high tree is pushed onto the stage. Spears, who is on a platform in the middle of the tree, begins the performance of Toxic . After the first chorus, she jumps down from the tree, secured with bungee ropes, and sings the rest of the track. Artificial fog and rain are used to make the scenery appear as realistic as possible. Then she sings a medley of Stronger and (You Drive Me) Crazy . This is followed by a farewell to the audience and thanks to their dancers and their band. The show ends with the performance of Till the World Ends .
