Jesupil (Ukrainian Єзупіль ; Russian Езуполь / Jesupol , Polish Jezupol ) is an urban-type settlement in western Ukraine about 14 kilometers northeast of the Oblast capital Ivano-Frankivsk and 16 kilometers northwest of the Rajons capital Tysmenyzja on the Bystryzja River.
history
The place was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1435 as Czeszybiesy , in 1597 the name Jezupol was mentioned as part of the Principality of Poland-Lithuania and belonged to Austrian Galicia from 1772 to 1918 under its Polish name Jezupol (based on Jesus ) . After the end of the First World War, the place came to Poland and was here from 1921 in the Stanislau Voivodeship , Powiat Stanislau. With the beginning of the Second World War, the place was first occupied by the Soviet Union and from 1941 to 1944 by Germany , which incorporated the place into the district of Galicia .
In 1945 the place came again to the Soviet Union , there it became part of the Ukrainian SSR and has been part of today's Ukraine since 1991. The place initially called Jesupol / Jesupil was renamed Schowten (Жовтень) and was given the status of an urban-type settlement during the Soviet period in 1940 . On July 9, 2003, the settlement was officially renamed Jesupil again.
