Verkhovyna (Ukrainian Верховина - until 1962 Жаб'є / Schabje; Russian Verkhovina , Polish Żabie ) is an urban-type settlement in western Ukraine .
The settlement, first mentioned in writing in 1424, is the center of the raion of the same name and lies in the mountains inhabited by Hutsuls . The Chornyj Cheremosh River flows through the town in a west-east direction. The region is also known as Pokutien . From Verkhovyna the regional road Р-62 leads over the Kryvopillja pass to Vorokhta .
In addition to the settlement, the village of Wiptsche (Віпче) also belongs to the settlement council.
