Kúty (German Kutti , older Schwarzenfeld , Hungarian Jókút - until 1902 Kutti - older also Kuti ) is a municipality in western Slovakia near the border triangle with the Czech Republic and Austria . The customs station on the border river of the March is only 3 km away.

geography

The place with 4100 inhabitants, which emerged from an earlier street village, is located north of the Myjava River and east of the March. The surrounding, largely flat landscape of Záhorie is named after the hill country of the same name in the southwest.

The Záhorie Hills are foothills of the Little Carpathians , whose gently shaped main chain sweeps past about 20 km to the southeast.

Neighboring towns and districts

In addition to the actual location, the municipality also included the cadastral municipality Uhlisko until June 11, 2007 . The neighboring towns are north of Brodské , east of Šaštín-Stráže and further south of Moravský Svätý Ján , as well as the Austrian towns of Rabensburg and Hohenau on the other side of the March . The new bridge near Hohenau, which replaced a temporary pontoon bridge from the 1980s, serves the "small border traffic" that is now possible again .

traffic

To the east of the town center there is an important freight and border station where international train connections on the Břeclav – Kúty railway line , which meets the Devínska Nová Ves – Skalica na Slovensku railway , run to the Czech Republic and Poland. The D2 and E65 autobahns run north-south about 2 km to the west .

history

The place was first mentioned in writing as Kuth in 1468 , and in 1498 it is recorded as Kwhty .

However, the place was already settled before - in the Stone and Bronze Ages - as various archaeological excavations show.

In the Middle Ages, the village belonged to the rule of Scharfenstein Castle , later to the Czobors family . In 1645 it burned down, in 1678 a deed of donation recorded three mills in the village, from 1736 Kúty belonged to the Habsburgs .

The chapel of St. Anne was mentioned in writing for the first time in 1707. The Church of St. Joseph was built in 1717–1726, a bell house in 1826 and finally the church tower in 1841.
