The Břeclav – Kúty line is a double-track, electrified main line in the Czech Republic and Slovakia . It is part of the national long-distance connection between Prague and Bratislava . It is part of the Pan-European Transport Corridor IV .
history
On March 10, 1900, the corporation of the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn was granted the concession “ to build and operate a standard-gauge local train from the Lundenburg station to the Moravian border towards Broczko ”. The company was obliged to complete the licensed railway within a year and a half and to “hand it over to public transport ”. The concession for the Hungarian section was awarded to the Magyar Északnyugati helyi érdekű vasút (Hungarian Northwestern Local Railway).
On September 8, 1900, the short local railway was put into operation. In Hungarian territory, the route was continued to Tyrnau (today: Trnava). In 1906 the kk priv. Kaiser Ferdinands-Nordbahn was nationalized and the line became the property of the kk Staatsbahnen .
After the founding of Czechoslovakia after the First World War , the traffic connection between the two parts of Bohemia / Moravia and Slovakia was one of the most important tasks of the young state. The connection of the Slovak capital Bratislava to Brno and Prague was seen as one of the most important projects. By 1921, the Břeclav – Kúty line, together with the subsequent line to Bratislava, was expanded into a powerful main line.
At the end of the 1920s, the line was integrated into the Břeclav station. Since then, there has been no time-consuming change of direction on trains on the Brno – Bratislava route. On November 11, 1929, the 5.28 km long double-track new line was put into operation.
At the end of the 1960s, the line was electrified with alternating current of 25 kV, 50 Hz. Electric train operations began on October 2, 1967.
