The Bankers Life Fieldhouse is a multi-purpose hall in the US city ​​of Indianapolis in the state of Indiana . Among other things, it is home to the Indiana Pacers NBA team and replaced the Market Square Arena from 1974. The building opened on November 6, 1999, around 27 months after construction began.

The hall in Downtown Indianapolis has been the home of the Pacers since 1999 and the WNBA Indiana Fever team since 2000 . From 2001 to 2004, the Indiana Firebirds' arena football team from the AFL played their games at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The USHL's Indiana Ice ice hockey team also briefly used the arena from 2012 to 2014. This hall has a capacity of 18,345 places for basketball games. There is space for 14,400 spectators for ice hockey or football games. In 2002 the then Conseco Fieldhouse, next to the RCA Dome , was the venue for the 2002 Basketball World Cup . In 2004, the short course world championships in swimming were held in this sports facility . The hall was renovated for the 2012/13 season. The most noticeable renovation was the installation of a new video cube in the main hall. The Bankers Life Fieldhouse features one of the largest video walls in the NBA.

In February 2021, the hall will be the venue for the NBA All-Star Weekend with the NBA All-Star Game .

The arena is to be modernized in the coming years from 2020. After it has been established that the Pacers will stay in Indianapolis, the home of the NBA team is to be rebuilt in three construction phases by 2022 for 323 million euros. In the first phase, the interior of the hall will be renovated. This should take place from February 1 to October 1, 2020. The second phase will start after the NBA All-Star Game and affect the outside area of ​​the arena with the expansion of the entrances and the demolition of the parking garage at the Bankers Life Fieldhouse. The third phase will bring further changes in the interior and exterior in 2022. For this purpose, the hall is to be closed for 60 days. During the project, Indiana Fever will play at the Hinkle Fieldhouse on the Butler University campus .

Surname

From the opening, the hall was sponsored by the name Conseco Fieldhouse after the financial services provider Conseco, Inc. (today: CNO Financial Group ). In December 2011, the naming rights changed to the insurance company Bankers Life and Casualty and the arena was henceforth called Bankers Life Fieldhouse. In March 2018 it was announced that the contract between the arena and the Chicago insurance group, which ran until June 30, 2019, will not be extended. The Pacers are meanwhile looking for a replacement. At the end of June 2019, the sponsorship contract expired for 20 years. The hall will keep its name for the time being, as no successor for Bankers Life and Casualty has yet been found.
