The Indiana Firebirds were an arena football team from Indianapolis ( Indiana that) in the Arena Football League played (AFL). The franchise was founded as Albany Firebirds in 1990 and didn't move to Indiana until 2001.

Albany Firebirds (1990-2000)
The franchise was founded in 1990 as Albany Firebirds in Albany, New York.
The Firebirds spent eleven years in the AFL. Of these, they qualified nine times for the postseason. Her biggest achievement was winning the Arena Bowl in 1999 when the Orlando Predators were defeated 59:48. Albany has recorded 88 wins and 59 losses over the years. These are the fourth most victories in AFL history. The Firebirds were also very popular with the audience. In the eleven years they recorded an average of 11,221 viewers.
In 2000 the Firebirds were sold. The move to Indiana followed.
The Albany Firebirds would later be back on the arena football map. In 2009 they played for one season in af2 .
Indiana Firebirds (2001-2004)
The second era of the Firebirds in Indiana was unsuccessful in contrast to the time in Albany. While they reached the semi-finals in 2001, they were eliminated in the Wild Card Round in 2002. In 2003 and 2004 the playoffs could not be reached.
After the 2004 season, owner Dave Lageschulte announced that the franchise would no longer participate in gaming operations and would be dissolved. Lageschulte wanted to sell as early as 2002, but a suitable buyer was not found.
