The  Iowa Barnstormers  are an  arena football team from  Des Moines, Iowa  that currently plays in the  Indoor Football League  (IFL). The Barnstormers play their home games in the  Wells Fargo Arena  .

history

The Barnstormers were founded in 1995 and played in the Arena Football League (AFL) until 2000 . They reached the ArenaBowl twice in a row , but lost both finals. For the first three years of its existence, Kurt Warner played with the Barnstormers. So impressive was his performance during this period that he was voted one of the top 20 arena football players of all time. Later played Warner in the NFL and was there with the St. Louis Rams to Super Bowl XXXIV win.

For the 2001 season, the Barnstormers vacated their place in the AFL and were replaced by the New York Dragons . The Barnstomers took part in af2 that same year , albeit with moderate success. After only one year in af2, they then temporarily dissolved.

After the withdrawal of the New York Dragons , the team moved to Des Moines again for the 2008 season   and was allowed to participate in af2 under their old name Barnstormers.

After the af2 disbanded in 2009, the Barnstormers took part in the AFL's gaming operations again between 2010 and 2014. The coming years were more than meager with not a single playoff participation in the five years.

They have been playing in the Indoor Football League (IFL) since the 2015 season. The reason for leaving the AFL was, in addition to the poor athletic performance, the opportunity to rely on local players again and to build up a friendly rivalry due to the geographical proximity to other teams, which has been missing in recent years.

The previous three seasons in the IFL have also been suboptimal. After all, they were finally able to participate in the playoff in 2017, but ultimately failed in the semifinals against the Sioux Falls Storm  with 32:66 and eliminated.
