The Green Bay Blizzard are an arena football team from Ashwaubenon, Wisconsin that currently plays in the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Blizzard play their home games in the Resch Center .

history

The Blizzard were founded in 2003 and started playing for the 2003 season in af2 .

Originally the club belonged to the former Green Bay Packers linebacker Brian Noble. In 2009 he sold the franchise to Titletown Football Group LLC, a group of diverse business people. In 2013, however, the group was looking for a potential buyer again. Even the dissolution of the association was in the room. Finally, in Larry and Kathy Treankler, buyers were found who still own the Blizzard to this day.

Seasons 2003-2009 (af2)

The debut season 2003 ended with weak 2 wins to 14 defeats, 2004 with 6 wins and 10 defeats. Both times the playoffs were missed. After all, the average number of spectators in 2004 was increased from 2,957 in 2003 to 3,683 per game.

In 2005, the Blizzard entered the Wild Card Game after finishing fifth in the American Conference.

In the following year 2006 the previous highlight of the blizzard followed, when they advanced to the Arena Cup final, but lost there with 34:57 against the Spokane Shock . It should remain the only final participation until today. However, with 5,836 fans per game, the highest number of viewers in the history of the franchise up to that point in time.

On May 16, 2008 the hall was occupied with 7,258 spectators, which is the highest number of spectators ever achieved for a Blizzard game.

Until 2009 the playoffs were reached every year, but they were not allowed to participate in the Arena Cup. In 2009, with an average of 6,093 spectators, they had the most spectators in the club's history.

The af2 disbanded at the end of the 2009 season. The Blizzard then began playing in the Indoor Football League (IFL), which they still belong to today.

Since the 2010 season (IFL)

The playoffs could be reached in the first three seasons, even if the conference finals ended at the latest.

In 2013, the Blizzard failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2005. This season saw an average of 3,811 home games.

Up to and including 2017, the playoffs were not reached once.

Stadion

Since 2003, the Blizzard have played their home games in the Resch Center, which has a capacity of 10,200. Various teams from the University of Wisconsin are currently playing there. Various wrestling events were also held in the hall, such as the WWE Raw 2016.
