The Spokane Shock were an arena football team from Spokane, Washington , that played in the af2 and Arena Football League (AFL). The Shock played their home games at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena .
history
The Shock were founded in 2005 and started in the 2006 season in af2. They later moved to the AFL until 2015.
At the end of the 2016 season it was announced that the Shock would be participating in the Indoor Football League (IFL). Since the naming rights lie with the AFL, the Shock were dissolved and re-established as Spokane Empire .
2006-2009 season (af2)
In their very first season, the Shock won the ArenaCup , the final of the af2. An average of 10,035 viewers saw the Shock games, which was a huge fan base.
In 2007 they reached the playoffs, but were eliminated in the first round against the Louisville Fire , before they reached the ArenaCup final in 2008, but unfortunately lost 56:55 in extra time against the Tennessee Valley Vipers .
But just one year later, in the last year of af2's history, the Shock finished off the Wilkes-Barre / Scranton Pioneers with a clear 74:27 and were able to call themselves ArenaCup Champion for the second time.
2010–2015 season (AFL)
The Shock started playing in the Arena Football League (AFL) in 2010 after their minor league league af2 was closed.
In the very first year they moved into the ArenaBowl and won against the Tampa Bay Storm with 69:57. This was the third title in the history of the Shock.
Between 2011 and 2015, with the exception of 2012, the playoffs were reached, further than the conference finals, but the Shock could not advance.
After the end of the 2015 season, it became known that the Shock would say goodbye to the AFL, also due to lack of funding, and would appear in the Indoor Football League (IFL) under the newly founded Spokane Empire club.
