The Arizona Rattlers are an arena football team from Phoenix, Arizona that currently plays in the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Rattlers play their home games in the Talking Stick Resort Arena .
history
The Rattlers were founded in 1992 and played in the Arena Football League (AFL) until the end of the 2016 season . They joined IFL for the 2017 season.
The founder is Jerry Colangelo , an American businessman who has owned many sports teams, such as the Phoenix Suns and the Arizona Diamondbacks . After several changes of ownership, Ron Shurts has been part of the team since 2011 .
Seasons 1992–2016 (AFL)
The Rattlers are one of the most successful Arena Bowl franchises ever. During their membership in the AFL they reached the playoffs 22 times and won the ArenaBowl 5 times .
The Rattlers are the first AFL team to win the ArenaBowl three times in a row . In 2014, almost 18,000 viewers in Cleveland saw their third title in a row.
Season 2017 (IFL)
The Rattlers have been competing in the Indoor Football League (IFL) since the 2017 season. After 12 wins and 4 losses in the main round, they won the semifinals against the Nebraska Danger 62:36 and could call themselves Intense Conference Champion.
On July 8, 2017, the UnitedBowl , the IFL final, took place between the Rattlers and the Sioux Falls Storm . The Rattlers won the game 50:41 and were able to win their first title in the IFL.
Stadion
The Rattlers play their home games in the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, which can hold around 15,000 spectators . They share the stadium with the Phoenix Suns from the National Basketball League (NBA) and the Phoenix Mercury , a women's basketball team from the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA).
