Marcos da Cruz

Marcos da Cruz is an East Timorese politician. He was a member of the Partido Democrático (PD) and later moved to the Congresso Nacional da Reconstrução Timorense (CNRT).

Career

Cruz was sworn in on August 8, 2007 as State Secretary for Agriculture and Forestry under Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão . After the parliamentary elections in East Timor in 2012 , he was appointed Vice Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries at the new government on August 8, 2012 . He retained the post after the government reshuffle in 2015 under Prime Minister Rui Maria de Araújo .

In March 2016, the coalition between the CNRT and PD broke over the dispute over the military commander in chief and the conflict between government and parliament on the one hand and President Taur Matan Ruak on the other. To ensure the stability of the government, Cruz and the other members of the PD in the cabinet announced that they were leaving the party. They kept their offices as independent politicians. When the VII government took office on September 15, 2017, Cruz's term in the cabinet ended.

Cruz, now a member of the CNRT, was nominated again as Vice Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries for the Eighth Constitutional Government of East Timor . However, President Francisco Guterres rejected the proposal because of the pending lawsuit against Cruz.
