The Gateway Center Arena (spelling: Gateway Center Arena @ College Park ) is a multi-purpose hall in the US city of College Park in the state of Georgia . College Park is located about three miles south of the metropolis Atlanta and belongs to the metropolitan area Atlanta . The hall with 100,000 sq ft (about 9290 m ) area is adjacent to the Georgia International Convention Center (GICC), the second largest convention center in Georgia and is the home ground of basketball - Franchises College Park Skyhawks from the NBA G-League and the Atlanta Dream of Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). The groundbreaking ceremony of the 45 million US dollars expensive construction was on 12 February 2018 attended by representatives of the city, the GICC and the Atlanta Hawks performed. The Skyhawks are the Atlanta Hawks' farm team from the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team was relocated to College Park as the Erie BayHawks in 2019 after living in Erie , Pennsylvania for two years . The women's team Atlanta Dream moved from the large State Farm Arena in Atlanta to the smaller arena for the 2020 season . The multi-purpose arena is designed to create up to 600 jobs in College Park and neighboring communities, especially for women and minorities. There are 3,500 places for basketball games. The arena holds 5,000 visitors for concerts , stand-up comedy shows , conferences , graduation celebrations , family or marketing events. With the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), Downtown Atlanta can be reached in a few minutes . The ATL SkyTrain , an automated people mover , connects the Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport with the Georgia International Convention Center. The first game of the College Park Skyhawks in the new hall took place on November 21, 2019. The Skyhawks were defeated by the Delaware Blue Coats in front of 2912 spectators with 112: 120.
